When the TV programme of which this segment is the closing part was planned, Coope Boyes & Simpson were approached - due to their involvement with the revival of First World War songs on their albums, and their concerts at or near the battlefields of the Western Front - asking if they would like to contribute, as their work was felt exceptionally appropriate to complement the poetry. They kindly offered two recordings and the producers chose this one.
